4 Biblical Principles for the Anxious
Isaiah 26:1-6
In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city; he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks. Open the gates, that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock. For he has humbled the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust. The foot tramples it, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.”
#1: GOD IS PRAISEWORTHY
Anxiety and thanksgiving can’t both be online in your mind at the same time. Training our mind to find the praiseworthy and the gifts of the Lord in the midst of our mess reaps great benefits!
Consider: What are you thankful to the Lord for?
#2: GOD IS WITH YOU
Anxiety is like a magnifying glass. It magnifies our problems to the point of losing view of God. Our focus on the problems makes our problems gigantic and our Lord seem absent.
Trusting in the Lord and training our mind to stay on Him reminds us that we are not alone and He is with us.
Consider: What feels larger than the Lord’s nearness?
#3: TRUST IN GOD ALONE
It is impossible to trust God when we want to control our lives or think that we know better than God how things should go, how things should be, when things should happen.
Trusting God is more than words or feelings. It’s a confident belief in God, His purposes, His faithfulness, His ways.
Consider: What solutions must I surrender to grow my trust in God alone?
#4: GOD IS SOVEREIGN
Whether it’s a stressful day or relaxing day, we must acknowledge our dependence on the One who is supreme over every calendar and clock, authority and need, problem and solution.
Trusting God involves waiting on God’s timing and purpose for all things.
Consider: Where do I need to relinquish control?
